Medigap
Medigap (Suplemental Insurance)
These are private insurance plans that help pay for out-of-pocket expenses that Original Medicare doesn’t cover, such as copays, coinsurance, and deductibles. Only people enrolled in Original Medicare can join Medigap.
Medical Supplement plans, also known as Medigap, help cover costs that Original Medicare (Parts A and B) doesn’t pay for, such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. These plans are offered by private insurance companies.
Key Features:
- Plan F: Most comprehensive, but only available to those eligible for Medicare before 2020.
- Plan G: Similar to Plan F but does not cover the Part B deductible.
- Plan N: Covers most costs but requires copayments for some office and emergency room visits.
- Plans K & L: Have out-of-pocket limits, ensuring you don’t pay beyond a set amount.
- Foreign Travel Emergency Coverage: Some plans provide coverage for medical emergencies outside the U.S..
Medigap plans work only with Original Medicare—not Medicare Advantage. If you’re considering a plan, it’s important to compare benefits and costs to find the best fit for your needs. You can explore more details on Medicare’s official comparison tool or Medicare Interactive. Let me know if you need help narrowing down your options!
